How to use the clean & clear acne control kit?

i just have a question about one of the things inside the kit. it came with a "fast clearing spot treatment" gel. it says to cover the entire affected area with a thin layer , one to three time daily. Now, when it says cover does it mean that i should, put some on my finger, then put it on my pimple and just leave it there OR do i rub it in alittle? so my question is do i leave it there or rub it in?
