How do I keep the after shower, or "wet look" for my hair...all day?

I am a young male college student, and I really like the way my hair looks after I get out of the shower, or when it rains, or after I get done surfing...pretty much any time it is wet. But as soon as it dries up, plus the humidity (i live in Hawai'i) it gets really frizzy, not to mention I already have course, thick hair. So my question is, how do I keep the wet look? I know I can use gel or mousses, but I used to use gel and I hate how it creates helmet hair that is hard and crunchy to the touch. Is there any way to keep it wet, shiny, and still silky smooth. I know, asking a lot right. Please help with any specific products I can buy, or better yet, make at home. Thanks.
